MAGA: Make America Go Away

With the recent announcement that the USA plans to spend $4 billion on "its" bases in East Anglia, to provide "storage"(ie a launch pad) for nuclear weapons and spy stations, the time has surely come to call a halt to this military colonisation of our country.

How much more can Trump, with his almost-comical ego, and his lawless regime, get away with? He's had us all hypnotised, like some deadly snake that strikes at random, so we dare not look away. UK politicians have fallen into a state of paralysed compliance. Diplomatic manoevres have had zero effect. Even with the faint possibility of a more benign future US administration, the damage already wreaked will take decades to fix. So, something must be done to contain him, and soon. It so happens that there's a land-related issue which may provide a starting-point for damage control.

The island of Britain has long been viewed by the USA as a convenient aircraft carrier, halfway to its Middle Eastern interests. It's forty years since Thatcher let Reagan use our country as a platform for bombing Libya, and the creepy "special relationship" still supports America's worldwide murderous enterprise. Let's not do that any more.

Here's the list of the main US bases: Germany 122 : Canada 14 : UK 21 : Turkey 12 ; Portugal 14 : South Korea 80 : Japan 98 : Italy 47. That's four hundred and eight American footholds in parts of the world which are fundamentally none of their business. Al Jazeera lists 750, to include minor outposts in 72 additional countries. There were 221,599 US military and civilian personnel stationed in foreign countries as of December 2025. The map (see pdf) shows the military bases in England, though not the equally threatening US corporate strongholds, many of them in Wales (see issue 37 page 45 ). One example of the scale involved is an ammunition storage location at RAF Welford in Berkshire: 736 acres. The Stop The War Coalition and DeClassified UK's investigations found that these US sites cover over 20 square miles, (equivalent to around 11,500 football pitches). There are far, far better uses for that much land. And it's ours.

Every sovereign nation has the right to say who does and doesn't get to be present in their country. This applies to individuals, corporations, and foreign powers.
Some concerted effort by a decent proportion of US-occupied countries, to refuse to continue hosting the parasitic outposts of that now malignant nation, would undercut Trump's ability to devastate the world beyond "his" borders.

Already there are encouraging signs that the Trumpian über-ego is beginning to deflate. From his window he sees, not a glittering ballroom but an ugly big hole in the ground. His demand for a billion tax dollars to fund a high-security basement for it were refused, likewise more billions to reward his insurrectionary friends, withheld. Close to home, he's being told — no. Backs are being turned.

No-one went to see the hysterically boring advertorial film made by, for, and about his plastic wife. He got caught on film cheating at golf. He play-acted Jesus, insulting the Bible Belters. His big pool refurb and State Fair were disasters. Now only the ego remains. A giant inflatable naked baby, leaking hot air and a terrible smell. The original meaning of "trump".

We know that's he's undone virtually every legal constraint that could control him in his own territory, but those flimsy acts could be overturned if and when the USA gets a grip on its humungous dysfunctions. We can but hope. In the meantime, in the real world, why keep in cahoots with a supposed partner who has now proved themselves so unreliable? A recent poll of 11 European countries shows this awareness of the need for divorce is there. So, no more appeasement. The first step, setting an example to the world, is for Britain to banish this intruder from our land, which a less complicit and bolder government could do. We could re-word it more politely, no doubt, but still, let the message be loud and clear:

Yankees, Go Home!

5th October UPDATE - on this morning's news:

"A Pentagon spokesperson said:

While operational security precluded us from confirming the movement of our assets and forces in ‌real time, we can acknowledge ‌now that all US bombers that were deployed to ‌RAF Fairford have redeployed to their home stations in the United States.

At least 10 B-1 bombers of 12 flew out of Fairford on Sunday, including some that arrived on rotation less than a week ago, underlining the haste of the departure."
